Only selected joined ewe and lamb lines sell better online

These scanned in-lamb 19 month-old first cross ewes weighing 61kg at Nevertire in NSW and joined to White Suffolk rams sold for $180 on AuctionsPlus last week.

ONLINE sheep purchasers paid more selected lines of scanned in-lamb and joined ewes on AuctionsPlus last week.

However, most categories other categories of lambs and ewes only sold at improved clearance rates at reduced prices.

AuctionsPlus commercial sheep and lamb listings fell 8 percent to 52,823 head last week.

Thursday’s sheep sale was cancelled due to the ANZAC Day public holiday, which reduced the overall offering.

The overall clearance rate rose two percentage points to 52pc and the Price Over Reserve increased by $2 to average $9 across all listings.

The average crossbred lamb prices fell by 4pc, with the crossbred lamb indicator moving from $106 to $102. The AuctionsPlus restocker indicator (ARLI) lifted 27c/kg to 589c/kg.

Lamb prices were mixed across different categories with the average price paid for Merino wether lamb prices lifting by $43 to reach $87 across a 225pc larger offering of 2572 head.

Prices were also mixed across joined ewes, with the average price for scanned in-lamb shedding breed ewes dropping $73 to $92 and joined composite/other breed ewes averaging $149, up $54.

New South Wales producers offered nearly 9000 fewer head than the previous week, but remained the highest contributors with 26,530 head offered. Victorian producers offered 15,453 head, 6901 more. South Australian purchases more than halved to 3298, while Victorian purchases more than doubled to 8021.

The average price for the 9154 crossbred lambs offered fell $4 average $102 for a 65pc clearance rate. At Taralga in NSW, 330 June-July 2023 drop mixed sex Poll Dorset cross lambs weighing 45kg lwt sold for $142.50/head, or 319c/kg, to a buyer in Forbes, NSW.

At Menindee in NSW, 715 August-September 2023 drop Poll Merino wethers weighing 41kg lwt made $91, or 222c/kg, with a buyer in Loxton, South Australia.

The larger offering of 6726 scanned in-lamb Merino ewes averaged $118, up $19, with a 37pc clearance.
