A COLD front brought isolated thunderstorms and widespread rainfall over south-west Western Australia.

Bunbury had its highest daily May rainfall on record at 72.6 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am on 29 May.

This cold front interacted with tropical moisture and moved across Western Australia into the Northern Territory and South Australia, generating broad areas of rainfall from the north-west towards south-eastern Australia. Daily rainfall totals of 25–50 mm were recorded in areas around Alice Springs on the 30th.

The rain band continued through south-eastern Australia, bringing damaging wind gusts over elevated areas and widespread rainfall, with localised overnight heavy totals in north-eastern Victoria. Many sites recorded their highest daily rainfall for May, including Mount Hotham, which recorded 115.8 mm of rainfall, and Falls Creek, which recorded 84.6 mm.

An offshore low brought significant rainfall to New South Wales from 31 May to 2 June, which exceeded some June daily rainfall records in the Sydney area.

The highest weekly total was 158.0 mm at Rose Bay, Royal Sydney Golf Club (NSW), which also recorded the highest daily total of 157.0 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am 2 June.
