EARLY lamb weaning strategies will be outlined at a free event at Edenhope next Wednesday.
The ‘Managing the late break’ day from 3pm-6pm at the Edenhope Community Hall will follow on from the successful day at Nareen recently.
It will feature speakers discussing strategies around managing lambing ewes during a late break.
Tim Leeming said lambs can be successfully weaned at six weeks of age.
The Leeming operation has been weaning for years at eight weeks.
“This year’s early multiple drop we will wean as early as possible, reducing our winter stocking rate, enabling ewe recovery and allocating the best quality feed to lambs as possible,” he said.

Extension and resources for the day will be provided by RIST’s Bec Malseed and Agriculture Victoria.
The event is part of the Farm Business Resilience Program aimed at supporting farmers to build stronger, more productive agricultural businesses.
